Stand Up.....

I was watching Good Morning America this morning and they had all three evening news anchors from the three major networks. They were talking about a simultaneous broadcast on Sept. 5 that is called "Stand Up To Cancer". It will be a way to bring in donations for research on fighting this horrible disease. If you know me then you know that I lost my mom to cancer a little over a year ago. I myself have know of 2 others who have passed away and several more who are fighting right now. It is a disease that will most likely touch everyone's life whether it be a family member, a neighbor, a friend or yourself. They read the statistics as being 1,500 people die every day from cancer, that is one person per minute. One out of every two men and one out of every three women will hear the words "you have cancer". They say that worldwide it is 6 million that die every year from it. SIX MILLION!! I can't even wrap my brain around that. I don't know about you, but those are scary statistics. I urge you to watch on Sept. 5 and you can also visit the website at www.standup2cancer.org for more information. They truly need to find a cure. So that not another family faces what we went through watching my mother slowly die from a disease she didn't ask for and didn't want. She did not smoke or drink a day in her life, her life style did not constitute this. You so often hear about your lifestyle being a factor and it can be to getting cancer, but that is not the only factor. They say environment, food, medicine, genetics etc.. can all have a factor on whether you can get cancer. Cancer knows no gender, age or race. I remember there was a little girl once next to my mom in the same room she looked to be about 12 or 13 years old. I can't even fathom after watching my mom suffer like that to be a parent and have to watch my child. Something has to be done, I pray that this network thing will bring in the funds for top researchers to battle and find a cure.

We all have been touched by this horrible disease by one way or another. I pray that a break through for treatment would come soon. By the way we lost a dear old family friend (My moms Japanese friend Shigeko) to liver cancer last week.
