Took Dad to the Dentist......Long Day

So today started really early, well before the sun came up. I got up at 6:30 had to get dressed wake the J-Boys get them dressed, feed J#3 and pop a pop tart in the other two J-Boys mouths then load up and get on the road by 7:30. We had to take my dad to his dentist appt. today at 9:10 so I had to get him at his house and drive him to the dentist. He was going to have his teeth cleaned, some cavities filled and two molars in the back pulled. They gave him a prescription to take one hour before his appt., which was going to make him groggy. So I get there about 8:40 and I knock on the door and I see my dad stumbling to the door. I ask him if the medicine is taking affect and he sounded like he was drunk, so I helped him put on his coat and help him to the car which was no easy task. Then if you know my dad he has to get the gate closed which we couldn't do by the remote (long story) so he precedes to get out and I have to assist him untying the gate and closing it and tying it back which is not easy with a drugged person. I get him to the dentist and he falls asleep in the waiting room. They wake him and get him back there and tell me to be back in about an hour to get him. While I was in town I went to see my Grandma who is in an assisted living place there in Terrell. I will tell about my visit with her tomorrow. Then we went back up there to get Papa he is very very groggy now and makes no sense when he talks because he has gauze in his mouth. J#2 is fascinated by this and keeps asking him to talk about stuff. The dental asst. tells me not to leave him alone at all that day. I had not planned to stay much past lunch, so I drove to Wal-mart to get J#3 more baby food and then pick up lunch for the J-Boys and head to Papa's house. We get there and Papa seems to think he can walk normally and J #1 and J#2 were on the porch while I was trying to get J#3 out of his car seat and Papa heads up the porch stairs stumbles and knocks into J#1 then hits his head on the door! Luckily, he remained on his feet and was O.K., I don't think he felt much anyways. He asked J#1 and J#2 why they didn't try to catch him and J#1 said that he did a little because Papa hit J#1's shoulder as he was hitting into the door. Papa said that it didn't feel like he caught him by the knot on his head!! So I get him soup the other J-Boys fed and then I finally get to eat.

Oh and by the way all this time I have been trying to convince my dad that his bottom lip and chin were not really 10 times their normal size it just felt like it was. He didn't get it though, but I do have to realize he is 61 years old and has only been to the dentist once in his whole life so he really did not know what it was. Then J#2 begged and begged to go feed the cows. I told him to let Papa rest while I did school with J#1. When we finished Papa was feeling a little bit normal and so we went to rake the hay for the cows, did I mention that it only got to 40 or something today, it felt like 10 standing out there. J#3 was having fun though looking at the cows. I couldn't find my camera or I would have taken pictures and posted them.

Anyways, Papa was doing well I had taught him how to make JELLO and how to brew tea. Very productive day for Papa. I get the kids back in the car at about 5:00 and since they had not napped I knew it would be a peaceful drive home, with all three boys sleeping. Boy, was I wrong we get on Hwy 205 that leads straight from Terrell to Rockwall and it is a two lane road with quite a few side roads to turn on. I'm going 60 which is the speed limit and 3 cars in front of me all get to the right shoulder to make a turn and some little punk (sorry but I could type what I really thought of him) decided to come out of that side road even though he could not see the oncoming traffic because of the cars turning and I couldn't see him and before I knew it he was right in front of me in my lane I brake, honk my horn and he STOPS in my lane so I swerve to the oncoming traffic lane, luckily no one was coming to avoid hitting him then I whip back over to my lane all the while jostling my children in the back and J#1 and J#2 wake up very startled. I was shaken up but avoided hitting the little punk and I just kept driving. I asked J#1 and J#2 if they were O.K. I told them that I almost hit a car and had to swerve to miss hitting it and then I asked J#1 if J#3 was O.K. because I hadn't heard him cry or anything I was hoping that he slept through it and J#1 said in a very matter-of-factly voice that "J#3 is either still sleeping or dead" I said "What!! Don't say that about your brother", but then he apparently moved and J#1 said, "Oh, he is just asleep!". So all that to say that I am sooooo glad to be home safely. Thank you Lord for protecting us.
