This is the house.....

This is the house that we built...

This is the little tree in the front yard of the house that we built....

This is the bird that has been hanging around the little tree in the front yard of the house that we built..
These are the eggs that the bird laid who has been hanging around the little tree that is in the front yard of the house that we built...

As you can tell we have been doing a lot of summer reading at the library.

Yes, apparently the whole of animal kingdom has spoken and got together and established that since our house now is "pet friendly" it is alright to make a nest on the ground by our tree and lay eggs in it. Actually I think this is a pretty cool thing. I had noticed the bird around that tree for a few days now so I went to look by the tree and there they were 4 eggs on the ground. I am not sure what type of bird it is that lays it eggs on the ground, but the momma in me says that is dangerous. You don't know what kind of animal could snoop around and eat the eggs. So since discovering the eggs the J-boys have been very fascinated and we plan to find out what kind of bird it is and learn a little about it, sort of a summer school if you will. The neat thing is the tree is right in front of J#1 and J#2's bedroom window so they can look out and see the momma bird sitting on her eggs. Hopefully we will get to see some baby birds soon. I will keep you posted.

How cool is that? Wow, baby birds coming.
I remember these kinds of birds flying and squawking at me when I was younger playing in the field behind our house. Now I know why!

Ok, the science teacher in me says that I think that bird is a "Killdeer" (from the view of the photo its not too easy to tell). Now, don't be frightened by the name of the little bird. They tend to be a prairie bird, but do live in the towns/cities of the prairie. They have a beautiful song with a unique sound, and as far as I'm concerned are one of God's prettiest little creatures. Good luck with the new little nest and those babies should come out ready to "run" like their mommy. Check out the site http://www.birdwatching.com/stories/killdeer.html to double check and let me know if I'm right :) By the way, the house looks great!
