Berry Pickin'

The J-Boys and I along with a few friends went over to a farm that had a berry patch where you could pick your own blackberries. We were a little worried that it would be hot, but surprisingly the wind was blowing and it was quite pleasant. The kids had a great time and we came away with a big bucket full of blackberries, about 15 cups to be exact. Here are a few pics of the day..

J#1 posing for the picture.

J#3 did not know what to think about these things....

but it was sure fun putting them into the bucket!!!
Papa met us out there and helped J#2 fill his bucket and show him how to dig down to get the juiciest of berries.

The orchard where we were has mostly peach trees and so they had some little trees for sale. My friends talked me into buying a peach tree and I have not a clue what to do with the thing. I guess it will give me something to do in all the spare time I have (Ha-Ha) and do some research on "How to take care of a peach tree".

After pickin' we went to a local mexican restaurant and pigged out on some Tex-Mex then home to figure out what to do with my gallon of blackberries. I looked up on the internet a way to freeze them and also a blackberry cobbler recipe, yummy it is good :)

Oh, by the way when we woke up this morning we discovered one of the original 5 goldfish had went belly up. I called Mechanic Man and said he had a job to do when he got home! The boys kept questioning, "Why did Red-Tail die?". I told them that fish sometimes just do and we don't know why. I hope tomorrow doesn't find anymore.

One of the selling points of our current home is that it has a blackberry "bush" area in the side yard (the small variety). So, I appreciate your efforts to go blackberry picking today...lots of fun and memories. My sis, brother, and I had plenty of experience picking different kinds of fruit when we were young (which also included the wild kind growing roadside). Good luck with the peach tree. Want to trade me for some of the pecans growing in my backyard? Ok, that cobbler sounds like the perfect birthday dessert for the day and now I want some warm, gooey, cobbler straight out of the oven! Good luck with the fish and hopefully you will never be woke up in the middle of the night when a fish "pops" the hood open and you find the poor thing belly up (true story). Just refer back to one of the original "Cosby Show" episodes for dealing with fish that go belly-up (one of my favorite episodes...LOL).

Mmm, the berries sound good.

It's hard to keep fish alive. Do you have a kit for testing the water! We don't have fish anymore, but when we did, I remember testing the water often for pH levels, etc.

I didn't have your email, so I thought I'd respond to your Dairy Allergy question here... hope you don't mind. :)

It was obvious that it was cow's milk for us... he drank his first bottle of formula and went into anaphylactic shock. He headed to the ER on an ambulance.

Sounds like your little guy isn't quite as severe - which is wonderful! Still though, an allergy is very scary, confusing, and upsetting. You will want to mention what you are seeing to his doctor, who can then recommend allergy testing if necessary. We did both blood tests and skin tests (RAST).

I wish you the best... Allergies are no fun. You might want to start keeping a food journal - document what he eats, date and what time. If he has a reaction, document that and the time as well. Good luck! Please let me know if you have more questions... I'm happy to help when I can! :)
