The Birth of J#1..

As I promised a few posts ago I was going to talk about my deliveries of the J-Boys. I know that you have been waiting and wondering...so here it goes....

My due date was Oct. 3rd. I went in for my weekly appointment on Friday and I was in my 38th week of pregnancy and feeling it already. Dr. J, by the way I really love her, she checked everything out and said that I was dilated to a 1 and starting to "thin out". So I was like, "Oh, O.K." Thinking a 1 is not far and I knew others who said that they had been at a 1 for weeks!! Dr. J told me she would not be on call that weekend so that I was not to go into labor. I was like, "Oh, O.K."

I called my mom on the way home and told her what the Dr. said and she said that she thought I would go into labor that weekend, I didn't think so. Mechanic Man came home we had dinner and watched a movie that he rented, then went to bed around 10 pm. Then I woke up with a trickle down my leg, (sorry for any male readers this might be TMI). I sat up and looked at the clock it said 11:15 pm. I got up and went to the bathroom checked it out and made the assumption that this was was my water breaking. I was not experiencing any contractions though. I went to wake up MM who by the way could sleep through a tornado, to tell him that my water broke. I believe his exact words were, "oh, that is nice" then he rolled back over and went to sleep. I then went to reference my sheet of instructions that the Dr. gave me and it said plainly to call the doctor if you think your water broke even if you don't have contractions. I call the on-call number and get an automated thing so I leave a message. By this point nothing was still happening, so I go back and try to rouse MM. Finally I got him up enough to realize what I said he then asked me "if I was sure". I told him I was waiting for the doctor to call back. Thirty minutes goes by and no call. I still have nothing happening so I call again and decide to call my parents they tell me to go to the hospital and call them when we got there.

We head for the 45 min. drive to the hospital still nothing not even any water trickling. We get to the hospital which is small so if you go in after a certain time you have to go through the ER. MM asked me if he should let me out at the door and I said that I was fine and could walk. We start walking up to the ER door and the hoover dam broke. I did not realize all of that was in there!! I am soaked and immediately feel like I need to go potty so I tell him to let them know why we are here and I am going to the bathroom. I get in and then a nurse comes flying through the door asking me if I need to push I told her no I just need to go potty and she said, "I just needed to make sure you wouldn't believe how many babies I have pulled out of the toilet!!"

They wheel me up to a room and I get checked out and I am at a 2 and since my water broke they would be keeping me. By this time I am feeling some contractions not too bad, but coming close together. The nurse was great that I had, I told her I have never been in a hospital never had an IV before and she gave me a shot to deaden the area before putting in my IV. My parents arrive, by this time I am feeling contractions heavy and I am trying not to get an epidural. I don't remember exactly what time it was when they decided they were all hungry, but I was not happy. The nurse did not want me out of bed, I was hooked up to everything under the sun, my contractions felt like they were right on top of each other and I haven't eaten since dinner and THEY are hungry. MM was getting on my nerves every time he came near me so he decided he would be the one to go get breakfast at the local McDonalds. The bad thing was he brings back this sack with their food and THEY ATE IT IN FRONT OF ME. Not a good thing to do to a hungry, irritable woman in labor. So I told them to go to the other side of the room and not to come near me or someone might get hurt!! Every hour I seemed to be progressing about 1 cm. Then I hit 7 cm and the pain was bad and the contractions were maybe coming every 1-2 min. After an hour they checked me again and I was still at a 7 by this time it was around 11 am the next morning and I had been up all night. I finally begged for the epidural man.

He came in and in no time it was in and the pain was gone. Thank you, Jesus for the epidural!! I finally was able to get some sleep, then I hear them start to discuss lunch. One eye flew open and I told them that if they brought food back to this room it was going to get ugly in here!! They all decided to leave for lunch at that point, so I could rest peacefully. Then it might have been an hour and the nurse checked and said I was at a 10 and ready to go!! I told her my family was not back yet, so I called MM on the phone and they were heading back up to the elevator. I was ready to go even though I was scared to death because I didn't know exactly what to expect. I pushed for 45 min. and at 1:29 pm J#1 entered the world weighing in at 8 lbs. 7 oz., 20 inches long.

I wrote this in his baby book, "When you finally came out I felt such relief, amazement, joy, happiness and love all rolled into one!! When I saw you for the first time I couldn't believe you were actually my son. You were the one that had been kicking around and getting the hiccups in my tummy for all of those months. I couldn't imagine that I could love someone so much from the moment I laid eyes on you."

Unfortunately, we did not have a digital camera at that time and all the pictures I have are hard copies that have already been scrapbooked. So I tried scanning them and they scanned, but I can't figure out how to get it into a file that I can get on here. So I thought I would describe some of the pictures to you.

One of the pictures was of MM asleep on the couch in the L&D room with a pillow and a blanket and the bag of McDonald's breakfast is next to him and he is holding the remote to the T.V. That picture was taken while I was laboring without an epidural, mind you.

Another one was of course of me, no sleep, no make-up and wild hair waiting to have the baby. Aren't you glad you were spared the site of that one!

Then afterwards the joy on our faces as we hold J#1 for the first time!! Trust me he was sooo cute!

awww...so sweet!! It's the greatest thing in the world!!
I can't wait to hear your other two!

I woke Kyle up while having bad contractions to massage my back and he put his hand on my back and barely moved it for 2 seconds, and then fell back asleep. hehe, good times that we get to rub in! :)
