Today we went to church and Mechanic Man had J#3 hang out with him in the main worship center and I had to teach preschool. During my class one of the teachers from the elementary comes in and has a boy with her that looks like J#1 except with A LOT of mud on him. I wish I could have had a picture of his face when he walked in, but it looked like "the cat who ate the canary" look. He had mud on his face, coat, shoes and all over his pants. When I got closer he stunk also. He was playing ball with the kids during free time and he went after the ball and fell right into a muddy stagnant water puddle. I did not have a change of clothes for him so he washed up as best as he could and I had to slip in and get Mechanic Man so we could leave early.
We got to the car and had him strip down to his underwear and I gave him my coat to wrap up in. We put his stuff in a trash bag hoping it wouldn't smell to bad on the way home. When we got home I had him go straight to the shower. As he was washing I thought this might be a good heart lesson for him and as I dried him I asked him if he would have drank out of the puddle that he fell in. He said no it was stinky. I asked him what if that was the only water that you had to drink. He said no it was gross. I reminded him that we were giving up half of our Christmas money this year, so that meant half the toys that he would have received and we are building a well for the people in Liberia, Africa because they have water holes just like that, that they are forced to drink from or go thirsty and unfortunately people are getting sick and dying because of it. He smiled and said that it was a good thing that we give the money to help those people. I pray that I can have more teachable moments like that even if they are stinky ones :)

Great lesson!! what a great way to get him eager and really involved in this! God knew what he was doing allowing him to fall in that mud. Good for you for being open to being a vessel in God's teachable moment--as opposed to getting frustrated b/c you had to leave early, wash those nasty clothes, feel overwhelmed with everything else that's going on in your life, etc.
I'm praying for you and your family! (praying that I will be more like you!) :)
You are a good mom and what a sweet boy to be okay with giving away part of his Christmas. It made my eyes start to water reading this.
What a great lesson!! =) What a great Mom you are!!
